General Assistance – Transitional Assistance (GA-TA)

GA-TA is a cash assistance program that pays $100 in cash benefits monthly to those who qualify.

To be eligible for GA-TA, a person may not be eligible for the following:  Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Aid to the Aged, Blind, or Disabled (AABD), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, or any other kind of public benefit.  In addition, a person must be very poor and fit into one of seven categories of persons that  the Illinois Department of Human Services  calls “not employable.”  If  a person  does not fit into one of these categories, they are deemed “employable,” and they are not eligible.  Applicant must be a township resident.

There are seven “not employable” categories.  Please contact the Illinois Department of Human Services for more information.
